Early Medieval finds

Finds From Wirral
Early Medieval are finds dated AD410 at the end of the Roman era to AD 1066. They are rare finds but we know that many finds were made at Meols on Wirral dating from this period.
The PAS database only has 21 finds listed from Wirral found and recorded by amateurs from this period and Wirral Archaeology CIC have added 20 of them. We have , weights, gaming pieces, strap fittings, brooches and some very unusual coins. Some are pictured below.
This is a strap end. This is a small piece of metal that is split at one end and was riveted to a leather or cloth strap. You can see the split at the upper left but there is little left of the original rivet holes. There is no visible decoration on this piece but it is quite corroded so any decoration may have gone.
It is dated AD 750-950.
